Quick little post for you all….:

nerdy

A good percent of the time, I am met with a lot of disrespectful comments because of my tattoos/appearance, general interests, career goals, etc. This is especially frequent in my job. However, after an extremely unpleasant instance of this today, in which you’d think because I have tattoos I kick puppies or something, I ended up having a wonderful conversation with a work associate about our nerdy interests and such, as we normally do, and how I remind her of her daughter and my advice has been awesome and journeys etc. and how she adores the general comradery of most legitimately passionate nerd-folk. We briefly touched on my own appreciation because of instances like earlier, and she agreed it made no sense. We talked about some different things off topic that I am doing or have done of any interest, and she said “Wow. See? You’ve done more and aspire for more than all those people combined, and there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.” I agreed. We also discussed her daughter finally realizing that being a nerd-minded girl wasn’t something to be ashamed of, but rather to embrace.
I told her she was exactly right, because despite the negativity for my tattoos, or the double-standards these days regarding ‘nerds’ (hot people with a nerdy interest being totally cool, but a passionate but supposedly unattractive nerd…. absolute social suicide), and the like… I’d rather be completely true to myself and not compromise for anyone, than to change or suppress who I am because of people that don’t even know me.
This conversation turned my entire day around. NERD PRIDE!

This post was inspired by two incredible women – Michelle Zink and “Momma” Maria. 🙂 Thanks to both of you wonderful ladies for giving me the motivation to stay focused on the positive.

Now, I’d like to do this as a collective series of posts – do some now, some in another blog, etc. Just keep going. But for today, I’ll only post a few.

My “other momma”, Maria, told me the other day that I needed to make a list of at least 5 things I was grateful for. Something to remind me that I have plenty to be happy about, even when I feel like there really isn’t anything worth smiling about.

Then I think it was the next day, the beautiful and talented Michelle Zink (she’s an absolute doll and an incredible writer and you need to read her books RIGHT NOW) posted a very inspiring blog about the little things in life. You can check out said post by clicking here.

To sum it up easily – an idea formed in my head to combine these two ideas. And here you have it, my Little Things post, about the little things in life that make everything so much better.

Five Little Things:

  • Long drives with my friends, the radio up and lots of (usually terrible) singing.
  • Chinese food.
  • The smell of the ink in a fresh tattoo.
  • My nieces, that could practically be my own daughters.
  • Batman.

So there you have it. 5 Little Things that I love. Little things that make everything a little better. Some of them are a little silly to some people, but to me they bring a smile to my face. Hopefully you guys enjoy this idea for a post. I’m planning to do one each week, mostly as a reminder for myself of the things that make everything better in life.

Stay tuned for more posts with some exciting news this week 😀

The Waiting Game. Something that makes your teeth grind and makes you want to pull your hair out. It makes sleeping difficult, dreams a chaotic mess, dread take up residence in your chest, and just gives you this all around mopey and/or bitchy disposition. And it sucks. It sucks so very, very much.

I’m currently playing the Waiting Game. For my best friend, Quackers the Wonder Duck aka Daisy Von Doom aka Brittaney to come home from Michigan for the summer – which means photo shoots, chinese food, random dancing, movie nights, shopping, tattoos, and all around epic (mis)adventures. And oodles of pictures to prove it. I. Cannot. Wait.

But, I’m also waiting on some test results right now regarding the Mysterious Sickness of Doom. Seeing if my electrolytes are still out of whack, and also checking to see if I have some stupid rare disease that apparently could have been passed down to me from my dad. Joy..

So, it’s been driving me sorta bonkers, waiting around and all. For obvious reasons.

In the meantime, I’ve been reading. Finished up Anna Dressed in Blood rather quickly, and I gotta say – it was awesome! Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

So, I’ve moved on to the next book, which I borrowed from the boyfriend: “I, Lucifer” by Glen Duncan.

Pretty good, definitely interesting. I’m about halfway through. I would’ve already finished it had it not been for the fact I felt like shit all week last week and spent a lot of time zoning out or trying to sleep. But I should get finished with it soon and move on to my next read!

Definitely wanna throw in there, though, that this is an… R rated book for sure. Don’t just pick it up for some light read. It takes a certain sense of humor, I believe. And the ability to not give a shit about profanity 😉 Obviously, it’s right up my ally.

Now, to return to my day of useless internet addiction (aka Pinterest), planning my August Zombie-themed 22nd birthday party, and finishing I, Lucifer. Yep. I live such an exciting life.

What are you all reading?
