PART ONE – Because I am sick, and tired, and there is a lot to say for some of these and I’d like to give them proper spacing. So, a brief part one.

A lot of people like to post on Facebook something they’re thankful for every day for the month of November, and while that it a lovely idea, it’s not exactly for me. I much prefer my personal tradition of a blog post, something that can be immortalized and referred back to in future months for anyone who wants to read it or needs to, even. Forgive me for any errors made or anyone forgotten, because I’ve been pretty sick the last week or so and I’m still fairly miserable.

  • Simple Things I am Thankful For:

Batman. Breaking Bad. Books. Harry Potter. Adventures. Writing. Art. Doctor Who. Summer nights on the road, windows down and music up. Chinese food. Movie days with my favorite people. Curling up on the couch. My blankets. People that understand. Dreams, inspiration, and motivation. The Boondock Saints. Good memories of people long dead. Being alive when I can think of multiple instances that I should’ve been dead. Hope. Productive insomnia.

  • Friends:

New friends, old friends. Living friends and dead friends. Former friends and friends I’ve yet to make. Every single one of you meant something to me, or still do. While I may not be around as much as I’d like to these days, thanks to sickness or work or school or whatever… It doesn’t change the fact that I love you all, and wish I could spend more of my time with you. In all honesty, at this point in my life, I should probably be with you all more than be at work. Someday soon, I hope, this will all change. Not all of you have pictures from hanging out recently, but I’d like to change that soon.

  • Gone but not Forgotten:

Some days are worse than others. Some nights you’re wide awake wondering why you’re alive. Sometimes you have to live the best life you can for more than just yourself. Eric and Whitney, I’m trying. I really am.

unless it comes out of your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or murder,
don’t do it.
unless the sun inside you is
burning your gut,
don’t do it.

when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

there is no other way.

The above is from my favorite part of a poem by Charles Bukowski called “So You Want To Be A Writer” – which is the poem that made me fall in love a start buying volumes of his work. For very obvious reasons, as you can tell from the example.

The reason I’m even sharing this piece in particular, is because it perfectly describes how my writerly brain has been working the past week – which is BETTER THAN EVER.

I’m not saying my brain is as awesome as it was prior to the Mysterious Sickness of Doom aka Sjogren’s Syndrome. But the writer part of my head is alive and well this week. My muse has been poking around, and I’ve almost gotten a plot figured out completely for an entirely new book! WOO! You have no idea how excited I am. This is the Universe jabbing at me with a sharp stick, saying “Hey… Hey, you. Yeah, you there. Get the work. You’ve spent enough time screwing around.”

I hear you. LOUD AND CLEAR.

Which is why I’ve decided to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in November.  WOOHOOOO!

Wish me luck, kiddos!

Any who, thought I would share that really quick.

Dream

I’ve mentioned this roughly four trillion times by now, I’m sure – My unspeakable desire to break free of this rut I’m in and be back to my normal life of dream chasing (though you can hardly call me ‘normal’… maybe just back to my old self.) Because I am not a desk job person. I am not an office monkey. To be honest, my work doesn’t make me happy anymore, it doesn’t pertain to my future, and it doesn’t help whatsoever with the Mysterious Sickness of Doom.

So I stare into this paper instead of sitting at a cubicle
Take all ugly shit inside and try to make it beautiful

So, I declare it time to get my ass into gear. For real. Not just hoping I can and against my will it doesn’t work out. No. Not this time. This time, I am giving myself a set amount of time for these revisions, set amount of time to get it to my Beta reader, set amount of time to review it once again. I’m giving myself oh-so-long to work on something different to clear my mind of this story so I can look at it with fresh eyes. But mark my words. I’m getting something accomplished this year. I’m getting my query letters to agents out before 2013 is over with. I’m done waiting. I’m done letting everything else take priority over what I really want out of this life. If the Day Job wants to stand in the way, then… I guess it’ll have to go for now.

Because it is time I get back to Angel Young – the writer. Not Angel Young, the office monkey.

As you can tell, my life is usually a big ol’ mess. Nowadays, it’s worse. But whatever. I move on.

I’ve been making sure I take time to write as often as possible. If I’m not working on the manuscript I’m editing, I’m working on this idea that’s been buzzing in my head lately. But at the very least, I’m trying to make sure I get things done I need to do, even if they are the smallest tasks. Baby steps. That’s how I’m going to motivate myself to keep going forward. I can do this. I KNOW it. My dreams aren’t that far out of reach. I’ve just been so exhausted, I haven’t been able to try. But no more excuses. I’m going to go forward. Besides that, writing is my happy place. It’s very soothing, and distracts me from the stress and Mysterious Sickness of Doom.

I picked up some new canvas panels, brush pens, etc in hopes of turning some of my sketches into paintings soon. Updates will be made on a regular basis if and when this begins. Painting is also a good zone-out tool for me, and my ideas are overflowing. 🙂

Also, I have an appointment coming up in February with a specialist that can hopefully help me out with the Mysterious Sickness of Doom. I want some sort of help or treatment, at the very least an answer. Wish me luck. The appointment comes almost exactly on the year anniversary of this whole mess. Ha.

I leave you with this bit of awesomeness, seeing as I’m crazy excited that this is going to be on DVD soon:

So, I read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – which I purchased the day it came out, but sat on my To Be Read pile until I couldn’t stand it and put it on top – over the weekend and you know what?

Abso-fucking-lutely awesome.

I’m sure the book has haters (everything seems to nowadays) that think the concept in and of itself is stupid, and I even found it chuckle-worthy (hence why I bought it). BUT, after reading this biography style novel, I’m starting to question whether this was fact or fiction. I love this book, so much. I definitely suggest checking it out.

Now I’m on to Number 8 on my List:

Only on Chapter Two at the moment, but the story sounds promising, so I’m hoping for another incredible read. We shall see.

That’s all for today folks. Still dealing with the Mysterious Sickness of Doom. Still hoping I’ll wake up all better. Still wanting so badly to set up some photo shoots.

Soon enough, I hope.

I’ve always been a book-loving girl. My mom always read to me before I could read myself, and once I could – I took off, reading everything in sight.

Normally, I read a HUUUUUGE number of books in a year, but with being sick so much, I haven’t felt as up to it as usual (between headaches, exhaustion, etc). Which makes my goal to read between 60 to 80 books this year sorta rough. But I’ll get there… hopefully. Eventually.

Anyway. I figured that I’d keep track of this Bookworm Challenge via blog – what better place, really? So here’s where I’m at right now:

1.) Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

2.) The Woman in Black by Susan Hill

3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

4.) Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

5.) Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

6.) The Iron Thorn by Caitlin Kittredge

Technically, I’m not quite finished yet with The Iron Thorn (I’ve got about 100 pages left), but I’ll soon be finished up with it and move right on to my next read – hopefully, if I can get my hands on it soon, the sequel. This book is pretty freaking incredible: strong heroine, interesting and unique story, wonderful writing… I adore it. You’ll definitely see the sequel, which I believe is called Nightmare Garden, popping up on my list of books for this year. =)

So, what have you all been reading? Anything good? Anything from my list? Any coming book-to-movie adaptions? Do share!!

Still suffering the Mysterious Sickness of Doom (currently running a lovely temp of 101.6 – go me!). But I went back to the Day Job today, did my work super fast, and have since clocked out and am now trying to rest myself into feeling better. Which probably means I shouldn’t be sifting through agents I could possibly query about the work-in-progress, seeing as that causes a headache in my poor already-aching head. So, I’m trying to distract myself in other, somewhat productive ways, but somehow I end up on Twitter or Facebook or being amused by this website.

Books:

So, how about I share a little something I’m excited about? The upcoming release of the fabulous Jackie Morse Kessler’s new book, LOSS:

The next book of the Riders of the Apocalypse series, and I’m soooooo excited about it. I love those books, and proceeds from each book gets donated to a great cause. Jackie is amazing, and you should definitely check out her work!

Photography:

The last I had posted about myself shooting, it was SUPPOSED to be with Little Red, but my schedule and her schedule ended up getting all messed up, so it didn’t happen. BUT I did end up shooting with the fab Alesha Mahurin for an awesome-tastic start of a new project for us, called Saving Grace for now (blame the Everlast song). Here’s a a peak:

Alesha has been on this kick about me doing a series of hardships, so I started it out by making her a hobo. She’s a hobo with some pretty clean pants oddly, but whatever. Wasn’t a bad shoot and really didn’t take too long. Go us!

Looking forward to getting better so I can shoot some more. I miss getting all creative and artsy with it, like SERIOUSLY crazy ideas. Someday I’ll get all better from this Mysterious Sickness of Doom and have some seriously kick-ass photos to share, hopefully not as sad as hobos (even the pretty kind.)

So, we’ve had some serious stress at home lately. Our two little dogs: Tristan (mine) and Kikyo (my mom’s), vanished. We finally got Tristan back eight days later, but Kikyo  is still missing. =/ As you can guess, life has been a bit crazy.

But, on my adventure to one of the local dog pounds to check for Kikyo and leave flyers, I ended up meeting this big baby:

People kept coming in and looking at him, but, even though he’s a pup still, he’s waaaaay too big for most people to want to take him. This poor guy was on his last days, and he was soooo sweet. Needless to say, I didn’t have the heart to say no.

He comes home to live with me on Tuesday. His name: Sirius. =)

On to other, less hairy things:

I finished up The Hunger Games, and moved on and finished Catching Fire (the 2nd book in the Hunger Games series), and am now reading the final book: Mockingjay. Definitely a series I’d reccomend.

I’m finally making an attempt at taking control of my life again: starting to make a set writing schedule again is the biggest. It’s nowhere near the big chunk of time I used to devote to writing, but it’s definitely better than nothing.

I also got a new tattoo on Valentine’s Day:

The second tattoo on my Batman sleeve. I looooove it. Not the greatest shot of it, but oh well. It’s gorgeous in person. 😉

Anyway, shorter random update post tonight. More later.

Of  Books:

The last book I read was “The Woman in Black” by Susan Hill, which was an excellent read, and definitely haunting. So, of course, I’ve been dying to see the movie, which stars the one and only Daniel Radcliffe. Not gonna lie, there was A LOT of differences between the book and the film, most of which I could understand, but some just seemed random. There was something definitely more… disturbing to the book, and I think it was probably a psychological factor – like, a serious messes-with-your-mind sorta thing. It’s not like “BOO! BE SCARED AND DISTURBED BITCHEZ!” – it sinks it, like a slow acting  poison, and takes hold of you. The book will leave you unsure and heartbroken for a few days.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, and Daniel Radcliffe did an INCREDIBLE job as Arthur Kipps. It definitely isn’t the worst book-to-movie adaptation *coughcough* IAmLegend *coughcough*

ANYWAY, moving along…

I’ve restarted “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins, which I started some time ago when it first came out, but ended up getting distracted and never finished it – not that I thought it was boring or anything, another book in a series I adored came out, and I switched books with the intention to switch back. It happens. Anywho…

I’m loving the Hunger Games, and super thrilled with what I’ve seen trailer wise for the movie. Cannot freaking wait.

Moving right along..

Recent Misadventures:

So, I’ve had a lot of things on my mind lately. College related stress, work related stress, personal stress, etc. Just.. a lot going on, ya know?

Which is probably why the song “Another Year” by Amanda Palmer has meant the world to me lately. I’ll do a post specifically about that later.

I’ve got some serious work to get done involving my manuscript, but I never seem to have a good, long period of time to work on it. I’m going to have to change that. I’m going to have to change a lot of things, to be completely honest. I feel like college and work really take up too much of my time. I know, I know – that REALLY doesn’t sound good. But I mean.. I work 10 hours at least most days. I’m a full time college student at a college I HATE. I used to be a very driven and motivated gal. But not anymore, not lately. It’s like a major chunk of my life is focused on getting by, like life itself is getting in my way.

I used to be so very, very close to success, I could taste it. I was motivated and nothing could stand in my way or drag me down. I busted my ass to be everything I could, and I was ready to join my author friends among their talented ranks. But alas, life happens.

I’m ready to fix that.

Which is why I’ve considered getting an assistant again – someone to help me get things accomplished that take up a lot of time, or I may not have a lot of time to complete. Someone to act as a beta reader for articles, manuscripts, etc. Someone to mail off things, type up handwritten things, blah blah. We’ll see if I go ahead and hire on someone new again. It was helpful in the past.

Anywho, I’m out. I’ll have a more logical post soon enough.
